About the elderly person who gives this jersey its name

Andreu Batllori
Potter (1937) Barcelona

If you go to the Sants district of Barcelona, you have to go down Calle Cros. Between cafes and shops, there is a small shop window that looks like it's from another era. If you go closer, you will see the handmade wooden marquetry, and through the glass you might discover Mr. Andréu surrounded by clay figurines and coloured ceramics. As you enter, you will hear the tinkling of a bell and the friendly welcome of the potter. This is where the magic that the Batllori have performed for centuries takes place: turning clay (earth and water) into something solid. Casa Batllori was founded in 1792. Andreu's grandfather worked outdoors, on an undeveloped plot of land surrounded by farmhouses and fields when Calle Cros did not yet exist. The drying was done in the sun and the mud pools took up a lot of land. This house of potters has passed through time almost unchanged, but changes in habits have greatly reduced demand. "Before plastic, everything was made with clay" says Andreu. He has the honour of now running this legendary establishment, which is the oldest kiln in Barcelona. He fires all kinds of pieces. It is said among sculptors and ceramists that Mr Batllori is the one who does it best. Andreu knows clay like no one else; he knows how to turn it, model it, fire it and decorate it. He has learned this from his ancestors and from a lifetime of hands in the clay.
