WHY ACRYLIC?
RECYCLED ACRYLIC
Many people ask us why our jerseys contain acrylic. The reason is that when we recover the scraps, they are made of wool and different types of acrylic. This is the material we use to recycle and make thread again. (It would be impossible to separate the two types of fiber in a mechanical process.)
On the other hand, at the moment, it is not possible to achieve the proper twist of the yarn using only recycled wool fibers. Therefore, a good amount of acrylic fibers is necessary. In the case of IAIOS, all the fibers we use (acrylic and wool) are recycled.
This system allows us to avoid the dyeing process. (We simply separate the scraps by shade and then grind and mix them to find the right colors) In addition, we use only 1% of the water used in a normal spinning process.
We would also like to emphasize that acrylic does not necessarily have to be an artificial and harmful material. In fact, it can be more sustainable depending on how it is used. For example, it is much easier to recycle than other types of materials (even several times). It also provides the thread with strength and durability, which gives a longer life to our clothes.
NOTE: all the fibers we use in our yarn (acrylic and wool) are recycled.
